The house is in Sainte-Opportune-du-Bosc, the village of the Château du Champ de Bataille. Everything else fits into half a day, with no set programme.

Château du Champ de Bataille

The great private château of the Eure, restored by Jacques Garcia, and its formal gardens. It is very close to the gîte.

Golf du Champ de Bataille

The course is on the same estate. Useful when part of the group plays and the rest stay by the pool.

The greenway

Perfect for walking, running or cycling. The old railway line, now a traffic-free path, links Le Neubourg to Évreux one way and to Le Bec-Hellouin the other — at whatever pace you like.

Château d’Harcourt

The medieval fortress and its arboretum, one of the oldest in France. Another half-day in the Eure.

The coast, if you feel like it

Honfleur and the Seine estuary are a day trip away. You can also stay in the garden: it is not a contest.
